Step-by-step guide: How to register for Meine Barmer

1. Go to the website

Visit the Barmer Website and click the green tab “Meine Barmer” located in the top right corner of the webpage. Click on “Jetzt registrieren”.

Register now

2. Fill out the form

Enter your email address

Then click on the green tab “Weiter” (Next).

Enter your personal details

• first name (Vorname)
• surname (Nachname)
• your date of birth (dd.mm.yyyy) (Geburtsdatum)
• and your health insurance number (Versichertennummer)

Note: Your “Versichertennummer” is located on the front of your Barmer e-health card and starts with a letter.

Then click on the green tab “Weiter” (Next).

3. Data protection and terms of use (Datenschutz und Nutzungsbedingungen)

At Barmer, we take the protection of personal data seriously. Our data protection declaration explains how we handle your personal data and what we do in order to protect it.

To proceed with step 3, you now need to check 2 boxes:

• The first box “Ich stimme der datenschutzrechtlichen Einwilligungserklärung zu” means “I accept the data protection declaration.”
• The second box “Ich akzeptiere die Nutzungsbedingungen” means “I accept the terms of use.”

To read the terms of use, click on the green link that says “Nutzungsbedingungen”. Our Terms of Use statement is displayed on our English website and available via the link: Terms of Use

Once you have checked the 2 boxes, click on the green tab “Weiter” (Next).

4. Create password (Passwort festlegen)

Here, create a password, so you can log in securely to Meine Barmer. Your password needs to include a minimum of 12 characters, including upper-case and lower-case letters, at least one number (0-9), and at least one symbol e.g. ! " $ % & / () = ? : _ - > < . [ ] ;

• Umlauts are allowed.
• Spaces are not allowed.

Enter your password twice (Ihr Passwort wiederholen)

Note: The password can be changed when you are logged in by selecting the menu item “Profil > Menüpunkt > Mein Benutzerkonto > Passwort festlegen. If you forget the password, you can reset it under the tab “Passwort vergessen” (Forgot password).

Then click on the green tab “Weiter” (Next).

5. Complete registration (Abschluss Registrierung)

Click on “Jetzt einloggen” (Login now).

6. Enter confirmation code (Bestätigungscode eingeben)

• Enter your email address
• Click on the tab “Einloggen” (login)
• Enter your password

We have sent a confirmation code (Bestätigungscode) to your email address. Enter the code into the boxes.

Click on the green tab “Bestätigen” (Confirm).

Note: The code is valid for 10 minutes. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to receive the code. If you cannot see it, please look in your spam folder or request a new code by clicking on “Bestätigungscode erneut anfordern” (Send confirmation code again).

7. Confirm your telephone number (Ihre Telefonnummer)

For security reasons, we need to connect your user account to your mobile telephone number. Enter your mobile telephone number into the box, and click on the green tab “smsTAN anfordern” (Request smsTAN).

We have now sent an smsTAN to your mobile telephone number. Once you have received the smsTAN on your phone, please enter the smsTAN into the box that says “smsTAN”.

Click on the green tab “Weiter” (Next).

Note: If you did not receive an smsTAN on your phone, please click on the green link “smsTAN erneut anfordern” (Request smsTAN again).

8. Confirm your identity (Bitte bestätigen Sie Ihre Identität)

Important: Here, click on the green words “Aktivierungscode anfordern” (Request activation code). You are forwarded once more to the same request. Click on the green tab “Aktivierungscode anfordern” (Request activation code).

You now see the words “Ihr Aktivierungscode ist auf dem Weg” (Your activation code is on its way). The activation code will take 2-3 working days to arrive via standard postal mail.

Important: Please make sure your last name is clearly visible on your mailbox.

Click on the white tab “Weiter” (Next).

9. Entering your activation code  (Aktivierungscode eingeben)

Go to the Barmer Website and click on the green tab “Meine Barmer” at the top right of the screen. Enter your email address in the white box “E-Mail-Adresse” and then click on the green tab “Einloggen” (Login).

You will now see the headline “Ist Ihr Aktivierungscode angekommen?” (Has your activation code arrived?)

Click on the green tab “Ja, weiter” (Yes, next).

Note: If you are still waiting to receive your activation code after one week, you can request another code by clicking on the green text “Neuen Code per Post anfordern” (Request new code via post).

Confirm your telephone number is correct by clicking on the green tab “Ja, weiter” (Yes, next).

If the telephone number shown in this step is not correct, you can change it by clicking on the green text “Telefonnummer ändern” (Change telephone number).

Enter your 12-digit activation code (Aktivierungscode) into the boxes provided and click on the green tab “Weiter” (Next).

Note: The activation code is only valid for 63 days. After that, the registration process must be restarted.

10. Your user account is set up  (Ihr Benutzerkonto ist eingerichtet)

You will now see the text “Ihr Benutzerkonto ist eingerichtet”. this means your user account is set up.

Click on the white tab “Weiter” (Next).

11. Congratulations! You are finished!
